Blog Question

Explain the differences between allotropes. (ex: O2 vs. O3)

O2 is molecular oxygen, and O3 is ozone, which is much less stable than a diatomic molecule of oxygen. Ozone can have harmful affects on animals' respiratory systems, contrasting with oxygen. Even though there is a layer of ozone above the earth's atmosphere, it is less present than oxygen. Oxygen is found mostly underneath and in the lower layers of the atmosphere and fills up about 20% of it.
